Hi English teachers, do you want your students to talk more in English? they have to feel comfortable and confident first. If not, it will be difficult to encourage them to speak out. The key is to make your classroom atmosphere fun, interesting, and motivating for them. It's not a secret that developing and improving listening skills as a hard task. It takes time and effort specially if you're not exposed to English, so the only thing we can do is still listen as much as possible. It's not that easy because lacking of vocabulary and grammar for us guess in the way and apart from that, it's sometimes so hard to understand native speaker because of the connected speech and reductions that they use all the time when they speak to speak faster and more naturally. In this time I like to share and give some explanation to you about how to teaching listening and also speaking to young learners.
Because of those reductions the language flows, sound smoothly and not choppy and abrupt. There is talking about speaking and for listening the bottom line is that we have to try our ears and we have to know what to look for and what to pay attention to when we were listening. For very young learners under 7 years old, you can use songs, stories, and simple games to encourage them to practice speaking. As young learners get older, you may have to help them become more confident to use English in the classroom. Teaching classroom language will help your students talk more in English, you can make a few posters and put them on your classroom wall. If you don't have your own classroom, you can put them up at the beginning of class and then take them down at the end.
