Language & Culture

Language is a means for us to communicate with one another and take advantage of language to unite someone who does not know each other to be closer. Language also plays an important role in everyday life, such as when we do activities that involve other people, language is used when we want to convey something so that they understand what we are talking about. Of course, use language that is understood so that communication can run well and use it as well as possible. Therefore, use good language because the language we have is a gift from God for us to use as a way for us to behave towards others and not to abuse that language for bad things such as insulting and mocking. It will only make the language look bad on people and not set a good example for others.

Talking about language, I will share my experience about how I used the language that I was used to using since childhood. I was born to parents who come from North Sumatra and they are very fluent in Batak language, but because I was born in Jakarta, so the language I use is not Batak, but Betawi. You could say I use Indonesian with a Betawi accent, so even though my parents come from North Sumatra, the language I use is Indonesian with a Betawi accent. When I return to my hometown, I have to get used to the Batak language spoken there and the accent they use. with a firm and a quite strong intonation makes me have to adjust myself wherever I am and use the language and accent used in that place.

Culture is A culture is a way of life of a group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next. Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual and group striving. The existence of culture in each country becomes a unique and distinctive identity so that it is easily recognized by many people.

Discussing culture, maybe I can share with you what culture I knew based on what I experienced, as I explained earlier that I came from the Batak tribe where the culture from that area still exists today. precisely when I was 12 years old when my parents had their wedding party which was done in a customary way. My sister and I certainly had to participate and finally, I experienced an activity that involved tribal culture, namely the Batak wedding custom. After the entire series of events is over, finally, a joint prayer is held as a thanksgiving to God Almighty for the blessings and graces that have been given to us. The conclusion is that such a culture must exist and be preserved in order to continue to survive as a cultural value produced by each region with its own ethnic group.

Thank you

Hope you enjoy 😁
